buried up to my neck while thinking outside the box
In Buried Up To My Neck While Thinking Outside The Box George Emilio Sanchez is trapped in a mound of waste consisting of personal paraphernalia, unopened mail, discarded clothes and old appliances. The entrapment leads Sanchez into a dystopian rant about the state of all things human in the guise of a “talking head” enmeshed in a body of trash. In an hour long durational performance that repeats over and over the piece travels across time and space to address everything personal that echoes the political, the gap between rich and poor, the threat of climate change, the greed machine of capitalism, class warfare, the tension between identity and race, as passer-bys stop, look and listen, or not. The text intertwines autobiography and fiction; poetry and prose; and juxtaposes the contemporary dilemma of compassion fatigue with 21st century aspirations of cultural understanding.
